Art, Craft, and Amish Quilt Sale – Highlights For Visitors

Two Art, Craft, and Amish Quilt Sales will be held at Mr. G’s Hall on Hwy. 57 just south of Jacksonport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday on the dates shown above. Featured at these exquisite Shows will be over 100 Amish made quilts in a variety of popular styles, patterns and colors. All quilts are for sale. All quilting is done by hand as is the Amish custom. Full sized quilts and baby quilts as well as queen and king-sized quilts will be available. The quilts are displayed on either a full/queen or king-sized display bed and will be turned on a regular basis by show employees for show goers to view. An explanation of each quilt is given as each is presented. Chairs are set up in the quilt gallery area for those wishing to view the quilt turnings.

These shows have a lot to offer visitors.  A wide selection of Amish made wall hangings in a variety of sizes, patterns and colors will be on hand. Throw pillow covers, table runners, place mats, pot holders, table centers, quillows, spice mats, rugs, Amish dolls, miniature quilts and many other interesting gifts hand crafted by the Amish will also be on display and for sale. A selection of beautifully made Amish baskets in a variety of shapes and sizes with color accents will be for sale.

Table displays will include a Children’s Table with cloth books, crayon play aprons, wood toys, kitchen utensil aprons, play work tools and cloth dolls. The Purse Table will feature pocket purses, hand crafted purses and bags, cloth check book covers, eye glass cases and cloth book covers.

Back by popular demand is the ever popular Cashew Crunch, a crowd favorite. Amish noodles, peanut butter and Yoder popcorn will be available again this year while quantities last. There will be two tables with fabric for sale. Everyday patterns, seasonal and holiday fabric will be available.

Another great new highlight are a number of local artists who will be on hand to demonstrate their special talents. Local broom maker, Chris Steinhagen, creates a variety of broom styles – the cobwebber, the hearth broom and standard  full sized floor sweeper. Stop in to watch her at work as she creates a broom especially for you! Glass painter, June Grutza, will be on hand to demonstrate her fine art of glass painting during the show. Come enjoy watching June’s fine art and find something to take home with you!  Door County artist, Sandra L. Peterson, will also be on hand to demonstrate her techniques. She will be displaying watercolor and collage prints incorporating barns and lighthouses as well as collage works of animals in the “up north” landscape and ” quilts” made from magazine and photo images. We are pleased that Sandra will be demonstrating and will have a display of her work available. Take some time to enjoy watching Sandra’s skills and techniques during the show.

Another great gift item featured at the show will be a new selection of hand turned wood items including  pieced wood bowls, and bowls created from one single piece of wood. All are hand turned by Mike Walker. He uses native hardwoods and identifies the type of wood used in each piece. Birch, Cherry, Maple and Black Walnut are just some of the wood types Mike crafts into beautiful, functional pieces of art. All are beautifully finished and are food safe and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Wood boxes created by Don Juers from Baileys Harbor will also be available.

A PBS Special DVD on Amish Life will be shown throughout the show in a side room for your viewing enjoyment.

The Show is sponsored by Jacksonport Cottage – Gallery & Gifts, celebrating over 30 years of handcrafted excellence in Door County. For information call 920-823-2288, email jacksonportcottage@gmail.com or view the show on the website at www.jacksonportcottage.com.

An entry fee of $1 will be charged at the door. Children age 8 and under are admitted free but must be attended by an adult at all times. All adults will be welcome to sign up for a Door Prize drawing – four $25 Gift Certificates good at Jacksonport Cottage or at future Amish Quilt and Craft Shows. The winners need not be present to win.
